Oh, I like pinch hitting, too. But yeah, I'm thinking a situation where if there are people willing to pinch hit, then fine, but if it's a huge stressful scramble for the mods, then no worries.
And I actually share your view about things being more communal than one-to-one exchanges. Which is why I kind of wish more mods would move to pick-a-prompt type fests rather than exchanges. Like, if Yuletide were all Treats, that would be so awesome. Just have the list of requests up and have a free-for-all. (And I know theoretically that's what NYR is, but...no one really pays attention to NYR fics. There's not the same excitement surrounding them and it's easy to write a fic and have it totally slip through the cracks with no one noticing it.)
