me_ya_ri: cover showing main characters of the story (Under The Dragon's Siege)
[personal profile] me_ya_ri posting in [community profile] access_fandom
Wanted to share a story I wrote for the Original Big Bang on LJ. I'm hopeful that it will be enjoyed.

Under the Dragon's Siege

Author: me_ya_ri
Artists: [personal profile] artmetica and [personal profile] rednihilist: See here for [personal profile] artmetica's lovely cover and here for [personal profile] rednihilist's gorgeous art! Please go give them the praise they deserve! :D
Word Count: approximately 47,500 words (posted in one chunk on my DW)
Rating: R (for fantasy violence and slavery themes, not for sex)
Warning:The age of consent in this world varies from country to country but is well under the age of consent in our world. In Petrin and Gaitrinn (where this is set) the age of consent is 16. In other countries it's as low as 12. Everyone shown in sexual situations is well above the age of consent of their country. It also includes explicit slavery, with the sale, training, mistreatment and salvation of said slaves being a key part of the story.

Summary: When Nemausus went with Gary, his older-by-one-year nephew, to get him a slave, he thought that it would be a good way to help Gary cope with his recent debilitating injuries. The failed assassination that had nearly killed Gary was Nemausus' fault, at least in his own mind. Neither Nemausus nor Gary expected that going to buy Mike would reveal long-lost relatives, plots against their Clan, secret spies in their midst or a threat to the entire human race that only Nemausus could stop. He certainly didn't expect that it would help him finally master his Battle Mage skills and protect everyone he loved against the threat of the Tormal Dragons.
Copyright Notice: This is my original world, with my characters. Please be kind and do not plagarize.

Posted to my Dreamwidth in one chunk here.

Hope everyone enjoys the story!

(And mods? I wasn't sure what tags to use so I just went with fanfic on this.)

Please be kind and do not steal.

This phrasing is problematic, considering you're posting in a fandom comm. Just saying. Good luck with the story.

I don't have an issue with original fiction being posted here--it's the characterization of any works based on your world as "stealing" (or, now, "plagiarism") that bothers me.

A lot of the people who are reading your story post on this comm are very invested in creating fan works--which are based on other people's creations. By using words like "steal" and "plagiarize," you imply that what those people (including me) do and care a lot about is stealing and plagiarism. If that is an accurate reflection of how you feel about fan works, you might want to reconsider posting in a fandom comm.

If it's not an accurate reflection, perhaps something like, "I do not consent to fan works being created based on the universe and characters in this story."

Again, good luck.

Wouldn't plagarism be if someone wrote fanfic based on this and claimed that the characters themselves belonged to them? I thought to plagarise you had to claim it was yours, like copying someone's essay and turning it in as your own work.

Yeah, that was my take too. I stumbled over the "do not steal" part at first, but was then fine with it, because I equated it with: Do not use uncredited/Do not claim these are yours. Fanfiction isn't stealing in my book, nobody's taking anything from anybody (except maybe some original author's delusions of godhood).

Yeah - I'm firmly in the camp that if your story/TV show/whatever is good, fanfic is *good* for you. I've bought a lot of DVDs over the years based on either wanting to have the source handy for writing my own fic, or getting into a show (or band or film) because of someone else's writing. So not only is it not taking something away, I think it's beneficial for a lot of creators.

I suspect if I ever get published, I'll stalk DW under a fake name and hope someone writes fic. *grins*

(I have had people write off-shoots of some of my stories, and I take that as a compliment whether or not I like what they write - because they obviously liked what I wrote enough to want to play in that universe.)
