Hey, I want to know if someone has seen This Story out there (because I think if it's not, I may wind up writing it:

Has anyone written a story in which John Watson goes back to using his cane as an occasional assistive device? Even if it's not the focus of the story, I'd like to see something dealing with the PTSD/psychosomatic pain not being cured by Sherlock's... ego. (Alternate nouns: cheekbones, handwaving, magic cock.)

Anyway, any recs would be most appreciated!

I haven't seen, but I'd very much like to see it.

(I'd also be interested in Sherlock dissecting the whole "healing [blank]" trope. Just how absurd it is to expect everything to be fixed by love and breakfast tea, that sort of business.)

True - but he does seem fond of telling people exactly why their popular notions are very silly - and "Love fixes everything!" seems to be something he'd sort of tilt his head and give cat-look at, and point out that yes, endorphins could provide a temporary fix, but really, where do people get such tripe?

I am almost positive that I've seen it used in stories, though more of an aside than anything particularly significant. I've just gone through my recs page, though, and I can't seem to remember which stories had them. Sorry, may try back again later. Re-reading a bunch of Sherlock stories, what a hardship!

I can't say I've seen any with John limping, specifically, but there is a pretty good riff on the 'healing cock' trope here. I'll keep an eye out-- why hasn't fandom done this yet.

Okay! I'm not sure how well these fit the bill, exactly, but there's at least some mention of John's limp not just magically going away forever.

Let You Kiss Me (So Sweet and So Soft) This one has a mention near the end.

Light Our Own Fires This one deals with PTSD, recovery, and a certain amount of psychosomatic pain, though it's from a fresh cause instead of lingering?

Perspective This one doesn't have to do with the psychosomatic limp but it does deal with other lingering issues, and is treated with sensitivity and respect, I thought. More importantly it had Sherlock treating it with respect, so there you go.

The trick is to make it look easy alludes to the limp several times, though it's pretty indirect.

AND I finally found the one I was actually looking for, which contained the limp reappearing and Sherlock being annoyed that it wasn't fixed and John telling him off.

Hope those had at least something of what you were looking for.

ETA: failtastically forgot to actually link that final story, which is Without Loss of Generaltiy. *facepalm*

Oh good, I was hoping so! It was, naturally, at the very bottom of my alphabetical list, but I knew I'd find it in the end.
