I will add a caveat that a few people with PTSD have reacted poorly to that article, despite its general brilliance, because along the way he intimates that somatic PTSD symptoms aren't "real", and that "real" PTSD is mostly cognitive, when he really only meant to say that both were possible.
A very interesting piece, and I am sure it represents the experience of many PTSD sufferers. But it isn't always like that.
I am currently in long-term therapy for Complex PTSD, and my brilliant therapist is slowly working through the worst experiences with me. Part of this process is reviewing my world view - changing how I view the episodes, and therefore rethinking who I am. For me, this works.
