Model Hotel Access Info
Thu, Oct. 5th, 2017 11:50 amThanks to a link from the Facebook group "Fans for Accessible Conventions," I learned about an nifty guide prepared for The Majestic Hotel, a hotel in North Yorkshire UK.
https://www.thehotelcollection.co.uk/cms/the-hotel-collection/pdfs/the-majestic-hotel-accessibility-statement.pdf I want every hotel I interact with to have information like this. It's definitely a lot of work, but it's much less work than individuals having to call for details each time, and the staff having to run down answers.
I particularly liked the photographs. Pictures of an accessible bathroom can tell a much truer story than a binary "Accessible Toilet," especially when coupled room dimensions for the wheelchair-accessible rooms.
What's missing? - No information on perfumes, scents, aerosols. - Vague wording on dietary stuff - Zero re: noise levels, PA systems, captions on public TVs (tho' this may be so standard in the UK that it goes without saying).

Date: 2017-10-05 05:07 pm (UTC)The room and lift dimensions are good. The last two hotels I stayed at, you couldn't get my chair into the lift with me in it, and half of each bedroom was inaccessible without moving furniture.
The line about improving access, where compatible with their listed building status, annoyed me. It's an excuse, pure and simple.
