Hi, I was pointed here for some possible help with making my webcomics more accessible.

I'm using the Comicpress plugin, and putting transcripts in the, er, transcript area. My problem is, I have no idea if that's actually usable for screenreaders, and, if it's not, how to fix that.

If it matters, the comic with the transcript is here.

Any help y'all can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use a screenreader, but there are several free ones that you can try to poke at a website depending on your OS/browser - I've used several of these to test things. For Mac OSX, there's VoiceOver; for Windows, there's NonVisual Desktop Access; for Chrome, ChromeVox. Project Metalmouth is a desktop extension for the google chrome browser. Many people use JAWS, which costs a ton of money, but there's an option to install JAWS and use it for four hours to test its functions.

That definitely didn't seem to do it, as far as I can tell. The alt text is the transcript, it's just "At least everyone is happy to see you." (Unless that's what you are trying to put in for the transcript, but I assume it isn't.) I played the page through with NVDA transcript where ever the "at least everyone is happy to see you" shows up, that would do it. (You would want that to be in the alt, and mouseover text you want in the title attribute, although that means the mouseover text would be invisible to screen readers.)
